During the summer of 2004, in an effort to entertain the kids at a big outdoor party, the drummer, keyboard player, guitarist and bass player from another band got together and learned some classic kids tunes. Playing songs from Dan Zanes, Woody Guthrie, Disney, and the Wiggles Uncle Moe was a big hit at the party and decided it would be fun to make a go of it as a band that plays family music.
With multiple children as well as a number of nieces and nephews for each band member, we came together as musicians and parents because we thought we could bring music to families that would appeal to all generations. Each musician plays a role. Sean, the guitarist, is a cowboy. Tom, the drummer, is a surfer. Itai, who plays bass is the punk rocker and Matt plays keyboards as the blues man. We make a real effort to create music from all genres. When we write new songs we try to include subject matter that appeals to kids, with music that is appealing to the whole family.
Uncle Moe shows are attended by kids 2 and 3 years old all the way up to folks 80 years and beyond. Moms and Dads dance with their kids and even grandparents get up for the Hokey Pokey, because, well that’s what it’s all about. From Johnny Cash inspired country and folk music to the golden oldies of the fifties. From reggae to rock-n-roll and all things in between, Uncle Moe has something for everyone. Can’t wait to see you all at the next show. Keep on dancing!!
